Willis, it would be a travesty if we lost Paul Quinn. We need a HBCU here in Dallas, this might be one of the reasons folk say we are antiquated and behind. Howsoever, I might have been a little groggy just waking up this particular morning if so charge it to the head. Did I hear President Sorrell refer to junior colleges as trade schools in his tirade? If so, he stooped to the level of the misinformed person. I can understand the angst and such, but many "successful" people here in the metroplex are products of the DCCCD.... I'm sure there are many witnesses out there.

The reason we are so antiquated and behind in Dallas is for the same reason why the black student protest on SMU's campus in the late 1960s was one of the ONLY real major grassroots participation Dallas had in the Civil Rights Movement...(it was discussed in the news for weeks in Dallas) and the antiquated state is also for the same reason why the black church leaders in Dallas discouraged MLK from coming here a few years prior to that:

NO backbone!

If you are afraid to take risks and go beyond the pre-designed boundaries someone else left for you then you'll always be stuck in a stagnant state of social non-progress like green algae in a swamp.

So if Paul Quinn is lost then seeds for it's demise were planted LONG before the school even arrived here. It never had a chance.

Extremely well said, PA. It has long been a mystery to me why this city's minorities are so complacent and apathetic. There appears to be a collective malaise that affects the citizenry. The attitude seems to be, "I got a good job, so I ain't going out there acting a fool. Besides, I got to get my nails did." But let Willis announce free tickets to a Frankie Beverly concert and you will see more passion and energy that you've seen in years. It's very bizarre.
