Speaking as a person with no medical training whatsoever, I would have to say that it must be cosmetic because I can't see Vitiligo progressing that fast in just 6 months time...unless steroids somehow acts as some sort of accelerant.

That's interesting. This dude's body was changed by steroids and possibly his skin by cosmetics. It seems God's creation of him wasn't good enough for him.

I think it's vitiligo, the same condition Michael Jackson had. We've probably all seen local people with the condition, which is generally characterized by unnatural whitening of the skin. It typically starts as spots, frequently on the hands, and it leaves the lips and nail beds a darker color. You'll remember that Michael started wearing a sequined glove. That was to cover the initial stages of vitiligo, but since it was The Thriller, everyone took it as another of his fashion statements.

Six months does seem like a rapid progression. Perhaps steroids accelerated it, or perhaps, like Michael, he could afford medical assistance to just speed up the process enough to cover his body and give him a consistent, albeit somewhat odd, appearance. It's difficult for me to believe that he did this voluntarily, because it's not a good look.

Funny...I say that same thing about these transsexual folks. Such a sad existence.

Bookworm, what about his brown eyes that are now green? This a strange thing that has occurred.

You're right, Hb, that would be strange indeed. But to me, the eyes themselves actually look the same color (hazel) in both photos. I attribute the change in effect to the change in skin tone. However, I haven't seen him in person. And I did read online last night that his eyes now appear green -- which, as far as I know, could only be attributed to contact lenses. And if that's true, I'd say he did it to coordinate with his new skin tone, regardless of how he came to be that color.

I can't say that he DIDN'T do this bleaching intentionally. After all, there's ample evidence of darker people falling into the trap of thinking that white is always right when it comes to beauty. And that would also account for the lighter eyes. Frankly, I thought I'd never see the end of the colored contacts fad among African Americans. I was so tired of running into sisters (primarily) with green and blue eyes, looking like something from "Children of the Damned." I'd just hate to think that he did it on purpose. Am I naive? Perhaps (woudn't be the first time). If he did, he messed up, because it's not cute.

Sammy has a case of 'eating bad poonanna' because any body that'll get their skin chemically lighten to not look black, obviously been eating something bad. This hispanola negro been injecting clorox in his skin.

Good points, Bookworm. I just hope he didn't do this because of some warped belief or thought against his natural pigmentation.

You're right, Hb. It wouldn't be unprecedented, but that would be the saddest scenario.
