Dear Mr. Johnson,
My mom is a faithful listener to you and your show. I am 24 yrs old and I have a 1 yr old son. I am currently in college pursuing my bachelors degree. I am going through a custody battle with my father over my grandmother. I have been taking care of her for the past year and a half. He just recently started to come around. He and his wife have stolen money from her in the past and he is trying to find his way back into her pockets once again. He has taken her from me and I have no way of contacting her to know if she is ok. I have only seen her once since the day he took her from me. He has tried to evict me from her house and when we went to court the judge ruled in my favor that I can stay in the house as long as I want because of the letter that my grandmother signed stating that I could. Since going to court my father has been trying to force me out of the house. He has come over and shut my power off with the breaker box and placed a lock on the breaker box so that my son and I won't have any power. I was able to break the lock off and turn the power back on. He has called the electricity company to come out and turn off the power, but they wouldn't do it the first 2 times that he tried. On last Friday when I returned to my house I realized that he had come into the house and had taken the thermostat off the wall so that my son and I could not have any heat or a/c. On Monday when I returned from my classes the power was turned off because he had gone and placed himself on my grandmothers account to have the power turned off.
I have spoken to the Legal Aid of Northwest Texas to try and obtain an attorney in order to gain custody of my grandmother, but there is a conflict of interest because he has opened a case with them already against his soon to be ex-wife, whom of which my grandmother is currently living with at the moment. I have also talked to many other attorneys, but the cost of handling this case is more than I can handle. I am only working part-time and I am a full-time student at Cedar Valley College. If you could please help me with some resources that will help me gain custody of my grandmother I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks Brandi G.
